Project TTXGP

CAN YOU HELP?

After a very successful first outing at the isle of man TT in 2009 zero emissions motorcycles are gathering pace fast attracting a new audience of both spectators and teams. The future is looking very good for future isle of man events which will inevitably filter down into club racing along with a confirmed world series people are going to be more aware of zero emission motorcycles. Large manufactures of motorcycles have already come up with various states of vehicles  one being KTMs new race ready motor cross bike which is due to hit the shops in 2010 that being just the start of things to come.

Large manufactures are inevitably going to take the whole market in the future but at present it could be possible for a very small budget to go and take honours at prestigious events. The rules for the classes at the moment are still being wrote up and nothing is carved in stone yet with regards to power  methods, weights, designs etc  as the basic rules  for 2009 TT were zero emissions and 2 classes on being vehicles costing less than £20000 to produce and ones costing above that.  I imagine for 2010 things to be a little different with regards to class rulings. Bikes at the isle of man lapped the 37.75 mile circuit at well over 80mph average with most bikes topping 100mph through speed traps and 12 out of 14 entrants finishing the 1 lap race , 2010 I can imagine this performance  being increased dramatically and the number of teams entering could be multiplied many times over  and with talk of  multiple lap races to include pit-stops will make for exciting racing.

Motor sport attracts interest  with its loud noises and strange oily smells that’s never going to change, the thought of a silent motorcycle gliding past you at the pub on Sulby straight  may not be every ones idea of bike racing but in many years to come it may be the case that you just wont be able to run on polluting fuels two stroke racing has almost vanished  you wouldn’t of thought that 10 years ago and 5 years ago you would of smoked a cigarette in a restaurant or in a taxi ……

All that  asides I have decided to try and make a effort to have ago  to come up with a zero emissions motorcycle for next years events. Being what we are as a business we have a large  advantage on many teams as we have our own rolling road for unlimited testing and knowledge in other areas that will benefit the project. But a good project  needs lots of  ideas and input so I am asking for anyone who may be able volunteer there skills in the following areas:

  • Project management.  someone who can coordinate the team and look after the project from start to finish
  • Research and design  team    persons who can spend time finding the best equipment possible
  • Fund Raising /marketing Team  people who can set up events, contact industries, raise sponsorship etc. (very important)

Once the above is underway we need people who can come up with electronic  design and build or adapt controllers  / develop and generally show off your abilities in electronics.

A expert in motors
Plus a expert in battery applications

On the engineering side we have already decided that a conventional frame will not do in its design so we require someone with knowledge of frame building  to create a balanced prototype machine either adapted or from blank.

We will also require fabricators for both frame and  body work

Someone with skills in composites  (weight is everything)

Also  anyone with any  ideas or just a interest and would like to show support in the project any help in any way  will be greatly received. If you think you could help with any of the above  and offer some of your time you don’t have to be certified or  in any of the fields  but a interest in road racing  would be helpful .
